Thank you for visiting my website, wherever in the world you may happen to be! I hope you find whatever information you are looking for.
Here's a brief summary of my career so far.
I studied piano and theory with my father, Jack Phillips, and the organ at Exeter Cathedral, Exeter School, the Royal School of Church Music (summer course) and the University of Bristol, where I gained a BA in Music (2:1). See my educational background here.
Since the launch of my solo career at Peterborough Cathedral, I have performed at various London venues and in churches and cathedrals throughout Scotland, England and Wales, and on a concert tour of Estonia, including two concerts in the capital, Tallinn. After a number of years in Norway as organist in both Lutheran and Roman Catholic churches, including the Franciscan friary in Oslo, I was appointed organist of St. Mary Rotherhithe, London, where for eleven years I was privileged to play the historic 1764 John Byfield instrument, including playing for the visits of both the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster Abbey.
As a result of my work with the Rotherhithe Byfield organ, I have become a specialist in the English 18th century repertoire 1714-1837, the 'Gorgeous Georgians', and at Rotherhithe performed representative works of 31 composers of the period over a six-month series. Click on the links to hear me play some of these pieces on authentic instruments of the period.
As well as being a performer, I am also an experienced music teacher, now teaching piano online, and music theory by email.
My wife, Tina, is also an organist, pianist and music teacher, as well as a composer. Click here for more about her.
